Apply to the Sonography Program

Applications for Summer 2026 will be available in the spring semester.

All Pass or Satisfactory grades earned in Spring 2020 (using a Pass/Fail or Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory grade scale) will still be considered for admission to the program. Each course affected will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis and will still be subject to Laramie County Community College's Transfer Grade policies. If you have questions, please contact the Program Director or Advisor for the program.

Application Process

Submit an 糖心live Admission Application.  It is the student鈥檚 responsibility to request official transcripts of college courses to be sent to the Student Records Office.

If you are a student or have taken courses at 糖心live within the last year, you do not need to reapply to 糖心live.

Completion of, or in the process of completion, all required prerequisites as outlined in the program application and the college catalog corresponding to the year in which the student plans to enter. All must be completed or in progress with a grade of 鈥淐鈥 or better by the application deadline. All applicants must have a prerequisite GPA of 3.0 or higher to be eligible for the program. If a student has a late start course, they may be ineligible and must contact the Program Director.

* Anatomy and Physiology Course Requirement

To be eligible for admission, applicants must have completed Anatomy and Physiology courses within the past five years. This five-year timeframe is calculated based on the program entry date.

Exemption Criteria

Applicants currently employed in a qualifying medical profession may be exempt from the five-year requirement. To qualify for this exemption, you must:

  • Be a graduate of a two-year, patient-care-related health occupation program.
  • Provide documentation of current employment in one of the following professions:
    • Registered Nurse (RN)
    • Radiologic Technologist (ARRT(R))
    • Physical Therapist Assistant
    • Respiratory Therapist

Required Documentation

Proof of employment must be submitted to verify eligibility for exemption.

  1. Prior to performing any observations, read and sign the 

  2. Contact a Radiology/Medical Imaging department to schedule observation experience.
    • Some facilities require proof of immunizations prior to your observation; therefore, allow adequate time to complete these actions.

  3. Upon arrival at the facility, provide the supervising sonographer with a link to , which they will complete. You may direct them to lccc.wy.edu/DMSApply.
    • We recommend students review the Observation Evaluation Form prior to completing their clinical observation.

  4. Complete four hours of observation in a Sonography Department.
    • In the event that patient volume in the department appears to be low or inadequate, it is permissible for the observing student to reschedule remaining and/or additional observation time if the supervising technologist deems this to be appropriate.

Ultrasound Student Assessment (USA) Overview

The Ultrasound Student Assessment (USA) is a specialized aptitude exam administered by Pegasus Lectures via remote proctoring. It evaluates intrinsic skills critical to success in the sonography profession, including:

  • Coordination
  • Persistence
  • Problem Solving
  • Spatial Ability
  • Judgment
  • Graph Interpretation
  • Visualization
  • Logic

Instructions for Applicants

  1. Schedule & Payment
    Call Pegasus Lectures at 972.564.3056 (Monday鈥揊riday, 9 a.m.鈥5 p.m. CST).

    Pay \$65 (includes proctoring fee) via Visa, MasterCard, AMEX, or Discover.

    Testing is available Monday鈥揊riday, 9 a.m.鈥3 p.m. CST.

    You may also test at 糖心live鈥檚 Testing Center via appointment.

  2. Confirmation & Testing
     You鈥檒l receive a confirmation email with your appointment time.

    On test day, a link will be sent to connect with the proctor.

    Follow all instructions carefully.

  3. Test Conditions
    Must be completed in one sitting.

    No time limit; average duration is 1.5鈥2 hours.

    Close all other programs before starting.

Not compatible with Mac, Chromebook, tablets, or phones. Required:

  • Windows OS
  • Standard-size, free-moving mouse
  • Mouse pad (recommended)
  • Physical keyboard (no touchscreens)
  • Flat, clutter-free workspace
  • Display settings at 100% or less

The program uses Physics and Clinical score categories to assign points:

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the USA used?
To assess skills essential for learning and performing ultrasound procedures.

When should I take it?
At least 5 days before the application deadline. Late tests may not be accepted.

How long is the test?
No time limit; typically, 1.5鈥2 hours.

Can I study for it?
No. It鈥檚 an aptitude test measuring innate abilities.

Will I receive my scores?
No. Scores are sent directly to the program.

Is there a passing score?
No. It鈥檚 not a pass/fail exam.

Can I retake it?
Yes. Maximum of two attempts per application cycle.

Do scores expire?
No. You may reuse scores if you reapply, but please notify the Program Director.
